Sarnia
The Planning section of the Planning and Building Department is responsible for delivering a broad range of planning and development services which may be summarized as follows:
- Administration of the City's Official Plan, Community Improvement Plans and Zoning By-law, including the preparation of Official Plan, Community Improvement Plan and Zoning By-law Amendments;
- Providing and responding to all forms of development applications, including Official Plan and Zoning By-law amendment applications, consent (land severance) and minor variance applications, site plan applications, and applications for approval of Plans of Subdivision and Condominium Descriptions;
- Preparation and administration of subdivision and land severance agreements, site plan agreements and special studies;
- Administration of Committee of Adjustment, Environmental Advisory Committee, Local Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee (LACAC) and Planning Advisory Committee meetings and decisions;
- Administration of municipally sponsored Building and Façade Improvement Loan Programs;
- Inspection and enforcement of Zoning By-law violations;
- Administration of the Home Occupation (home based business) regulations, including the issuance of permits; and
- Provision of planning and development information and advice to the public and the development community.
