Flushing Hydrants

The Public Works Department maintains all watermains, hydrants and service connections within the City. We repair watermain breaks most of which occur during the winter months (approximately 100 per year). Mains range in size from 4 inches to 24 inches.

HYDRANT FLUSHING AND VALVE OPERATING PROGRAMS

Public Works Department will be undertaking annual maintenance flushing of the watermains beginning again in the spring of 2013 between the hours of 6:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday until the fall, weather permitting. Visit www.sarnia.ca weekly for the scheduled areas or listen to local radio stations each Monday at 7:00 a.m.

When these maintenance activities are occuring in your area you may notice some discoloration of water from your taps, flushing toilets and doing laundry.

Upon completion of the flushing or valve operations in your area, we recommend that you run the cold water tap for a few minutes until discoloration disappears.
