Councillor Mike Kelch is serving his fourth consecutive term on council after winning his initial victory in the 1997 election, and again in 2000, 2003 and 2006. Since his election to council, Mike has served in the following additional capacities:

- Steering Committee, Sarnia Business Retention & Expansion Project
- Chairman, Tourism Sarnia Lambton Human Resources Committee
- Chairman, Tourism Sarnia Lambton Strategic Planning Committee
- Board of Directors, Lawrence House Center for the Arts
- Board of Directors, Tourism Action Team (TAG)
- Board of Directors, Convention and Visitors Bureau
- Board of Directors, Tourism Sarnia Lambton
- Chairman, Sarnia / Chippewa Band Liaison Committee
- General Assembly, Sarnia Lambton Economic Partnership
- Bluewater Trails Committee
- St. Clair Conservation Authority – Board of Directors

Mike also works full-time as Training and Development Advisor within the Safety, Health & Environment department of Imperial Oil, employed by that company since 1974.

In 1998, Mike established his own “city councillor” website (www.mikekelch.com) at his own cost, the first such effort ever undertaken by a Sarnia councillor. The site continues in operation today.

In 2000, Mike was named to the Mayor’s Honor Roll for his work with the Business Retention and Expansion Leadership Team.

In addition to council and committee work, Mike has donated time and service to the United Way , Huron House, St. Clair Child & Youth Services, the Sacred Heart Parish Council, and the Scouting organization.

Mike married Joy Kinsman in 1973.  They have 2 grown children, Stephanie in Corunna and James in St. Thomas.  Joy is a retired Registered Nurse and works part-time as a classifier for the Ontario Ministry of Health, Long Term Care Division.
