Jim Foubister

Councillor Jim Foubister

 

Jim Foubister was first elected to the Town of Clearwater Council in 1988.  After the 1988 election, he served on the Committee to Amalgamate Clearwater and Sarnia.  He was re-elected to Sarnia Council in 1991, 1994, 1997, 2000, 2003 and 2006.  He served two terms as Deputy Warden of the County, and is presently serving as Chairman of the Lambton County Child Poverty Task Force and Vice Chair of Land Division Committee.  He was appointed in June of 2008 as City representative to the Sarnia General Hospital Decommissioning Committee, City representative and Co-Chair of the CAER Board, City representative to Sarnia Lambton Economic Partnership, Past City representative to the St. Clair Conservation Authority, Past Chair Sarnia Lambton Municipal Association and Past Chair Lambton Rural Game Protective Association.


Councillor Foubister was formerly employed by Fiberglas Canada Inc. and Canadian National Railways in Sarnia. He is now retired and actively devoting his time to community and political involvement.  He is a member of the Sunshine Dreams for Kids Dream Fulfillment Committee, Co-Chair and Athletic Director of Sarnia Highland Games and Celtic Festival, Operating Board Member and Foundation Board Liason Huron House Boys Home, Past Rector's Warden at St. John in the Wilderness Anglican Church, 22 years Minor Hockey Coach (S.T.M.A.A.) and former Canada Day Committee Chair (Sarnia Township).  Presently he is Chairman of the Sarnia Sting Golf Tournament for Sunshine Bell Kids Phone Committee Member.  In recognition of his service, the Governor General of Canada conferred upon Councillor Foubister the Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada.


Councillor Foubister is a lifelong resident of Sarnia, having been born here in 1934. He has been married to Marie, to whom he credits his success, for over 52 years. They have four children - Kathy, Jim, Karen, and Don and grandchildren - Ashley and Ainsley.
