Sewer Surcharge

The Sewer Surcharge on the water bill is currently calculated at 110% of the total water bill which includes both the monthly service charge and consumption charge for water users that have access to the Municipality's sanitary sewer system.

Funds generated through the Sewer Surcharge are to be used primarily for the City's cost to operate and maintain the municipal sanitary sewer system, including the Sewage Treatment Plant. Prior to 2003, these costs were recovered through the tax levy. Therefore this charge is now based on water usage rather than the assessed value of the property using the water.
