The fire fighting division operates from 5 full time stations strategically located throughout the city. It operates on a 4 platoon system each platoon consisting of 1 Platoon Chief, 6 Captains and 19 to 21 Fire Fighters. All members of this division work an average of 42 hours per week, with rotating shifts of 10 hour days and 14 hour nights.
As well as fire and rescue operations Sarnia’s Fire Fighters are called upon to provide emergency medical care. They are all trained in Emergency Medical Response, basic life support and CPR. All of our trucks are equipped with Semi-Automatic Defibrillators, and our Fire Fighters are trained to provide immediate assistance to heart attack victims. Our defibrillator program operates under the direction of Dr. Head of the St. Thomas Hospital.
