The forestry department is responsible for the management, planting and design of city owned trees on municipal property. These include trees on city boulevards, center medians and parks. The services that are preformed by the forestry crews are removal of dead or hazardous trees, removal of hazardous limbs and trimming for traffic and pedestrian hazards and clearances. Our goal is to manage the Urban Forest and provide a better quality of life for city residence. Our department also acts as a resource for other city departments for streetscape design, urban forest preservation, and community planting projects.

Benefits of the Urban Forest

The Urban forests are the lungs, air conditioner and natural filters for our city.

It is important to know that trees within the city’s boundaries play a key role in our social, economic and environmental surroundings. It adds natural beauty to our urban surroundings, and merges the habitat where people, plants, birds and animals live.
One acre of forest absorbs 10 tones of carbon dioxide per year, which means less carbon dioxide build up in the atmosphere.
The quality of the urban forest is a major factor in establishing the quality of our community life.

Benefits of Trees
  • Trees add beauty and character to our neighborhoods and communities.
