Winter Control

The City of Sarnia’s winter maintenance control guidelines follow the Minimum Maintenance Standards outlined in Ontario Regulation 239/02. Public Works will begin using a salt/sand mixture for rural roads east of Modeland Road. Anti-ice will also be used. Anti-ice is the application of brine to high risk sections of roadways prior to a winter event to temporarily prevent the bonding of snow/ice to the pavement. The salting/plowing units are equipped with pre-wetting devices that spray the salt prior to application. This not only helps activate the salt, but prevents salt from bouncing off the roadway. All these measures help reduce overall costs of winter maintenance and are beneficial to environmental initiatives of reducing salt usage. Our commitment for continual improvement remains a priority.

The City of Sarnia would like to thank all residents for complying with the By-Law.
