At its budget deliberations meeting, Sarnia City Council approved a $162.4 million budget for 2022.

The general levy increase is 1.91%, which is down from the original proposed budget levy increase of 2.99%.

The transit levy increase is 2.78%, which is unchanged from the original budget levy increase.

The total budgeted expenditures of $162,378,641 were approved and results in an increase of $6,619,542 over 2021.

Council approved the following changes to the draft 2022 budget:

General Municipal Purposes $16.79 (1.91%)
Transit Area $1.56 (2.78%)
Total Municipal Purposes $18.36 (1.96%)

Council also approved two grant requests, one in the amount of $80,000 to Blue Coast Primary Care – Recruitment & Retention; and the other in the amount of $1,000 to the Lambton County Log Cabin Restoration Fund to be paid from the 2021 operating budget.

The approved capital budget is $48,987,238 after approval of two additional capital projects totaling $175,000 from those outlined in the draft capital budget.

Reserves are budgeted to be $32,071,902 after the approval of $175,000 of additional spending from reserves and a $600,000 reduction in contributions to reserves.

No changes were made to the Fees for Services as presented.
