The Sarnia Primary Control Group (SPCG) met electronically with staff from Lambton Public Health (LPH) and Point Edward regarding developments related to COVID-19.

In partnership with the Sarnia Lambton Ontario Health Team (SL-OHT), and local health-care providers, LPH has opened registration for vaccinations to children aged 5 to 11 years old. This follows approval from Health Canada and recommendations from the Government of Ontario.

A variety of family friendly community clinics, school-based clinics, primary care providers and pharmacies will offer the vaccine to eligible children in Lambton County. To view a list of the local COVID-19 vaccine options for this age group and to book your child’s vaccination appointment, visit the LPH youth vaccination webpage which also features extensive FAQ and resource sections.

Provincial Update

The Plan to Safely Reopen Ontario and Manage COVID-19 for the Long-Term outlines a roadmap to lift all public health restrictions by March 2022.

Federal Update

As per the federal travel guidelines and the directions of the Ontario COVID-19 school and child care screening, unvaccinated children under the age of 12 who travel outside of Canada with a fully vaccinated companion are exempt from federal quarantine.

Children under 12 years of age (unless fully vaccinated) that travel outside of Canada (e.g. USA, international) are not permitted to return to group settings (e.g. school, daycare, team sports, band practice etc.) for 14 days upon their return to Canada. This includes team activities where the children are part of a group, regardless of size (e.g. dance troupe, hockey, gymnastics).

Only fully vaccinated travelers (e.g. 2 COVID-19 doses, plus 14 days) that provide a negative COVID-19 molecular test upon their return to Canada are exempt from this requirement.

For more information, please refer to the COVID-19: Requirements for fully vaccinated travelers and unvaccinated children less than 12 years of age document.
