The City of Sarnia is participating in the national Light It Up! For NDEAM event. City Hall will be illuminated in purple and blue on October 21, 2021.

Light It Up! For NDEAM is a one-night, national coordinated special lighting event in recognition of National Disability Employment Awareness Month. The event also serves to recognize the many ways people who have a disability contribute to businesses and communities across Canada, and help companies be successful and competitive.

Mayor Mike Bradley has re-activated the Mayor’s Challenge, in conjunction with the Light It Up! For NDEAM and the Ontario Disability Employment Network (ODEN),and has encouraged other municipalities across Canada to be part of the Light It Up! For NDEAM 2021 event in support of disability inclusion.

This summer, the City of Sarnia partnered once again with Community Living Sarnia-Lambton to host eight summer students from the Summer Employment Transitions program.

The program matches eligible students with employers to help students gain valuable work experience. This year, eight staff were hired in the following departments: Sarnia Transit, Park and Facility Operations, Fire Services, Public Works, Development and Transportation, and Human Resources.

Over the years, the City of Sarnia has hired more than 100 individuals with disabilities to have meaningful employment in their area of interest.
