On, Tuesday, May 5th, 2020, at approximately 3:40 PM, the Sarnia Police Service responded to a call involving suspected firearms. The City of Sarnia activated its MyCNN public notification tool and notified the immediate community of the possible threat in the area and to shelter-in-place.
This notification was sent to 4324 citizens covering a 3 kilometer radius from the intersection of Lasalle Line and Scott Road. Also included were all media outlets, surrounding Business, Industry and the Sarnia Primary Control Group. The MyCNN notification was sent via a phone call, text message and email.
For those receiving the shelter-in-place message, we have been informed that it was found to be very beneficial. This also allowed Industries and Businesses to initiate Lock Down procedures to keep their staff safe.
