On March 2, 2020, Sarnia City Council directed staff to consult with the public and prepare amendments to the City of Sarnia’s Lot Maintenance By-Law and/or the City’s Zoning By-Law to regulate the parking of recreational vehicles on private property.
The proposal would permit recreational vehicles to be parked in front yard driveways during the spring, summer and fall – from May 1st of each year through to October 31st of each year.
The current requirement for all recreational vehicles to be stored in a rear yard or a side yard in residential areas from November 1st of each year through to April 30th will still be in effect. Where a property cannot accommodate a recreational vehicle because of a property limitation, the owner would be required to find private storage for it off-site.
The City will be having a public open house on Thursday, March 26th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m in the main lobby of City Hall to allow for more resident input. Sarnia residents are also encouraged to provide feedback on the matter through the City’s public engagement webpage https://www.speakupsarnia.ca/recreational-vehicle-parking
The proposed amendments will return to City Council for consideration at their May 11, 2020 meeting.
