Festivals and events have continuously played an important role in the development of Sarnia’s quality of life, local economic growth, and community identity. Festivals and events are interactive, exciting and rewarding experiences for everyone involved, and pay tribute to our unique cultural, recreational and community initiatives. Planning an event requires an incredible amount of time and dedication, and involves the invaluable service of volunteers, community groups, and sponsors who bring their own support and skills towards enhancing these community events.

Celebrations may look different this year, but we encourage you to participate in our city and local community events, in person or virtually!

While COVID has brought about many challenges, one of the positive impacts that it has had on community events is the introduction of virtual and hybrid (offering virtual and in-person participation options) events. Check out the list below of upcoming community events (typically held on municipal property) that have gone virtual, stayed in-person, or become a hybrid. COVID-19 Information: On October 28, 2021, the Ontario government announced that all capacity limits on outdoor, organized public events would be lifted, permitted that masks be worn when a physical distance of six feet (2 meters) cannot be maintained. This announcement was made as a follow-up to the Ontario government’s launch of A Plan to Safely Reopen Ontario and Manage COVID-19covid 19 for the Long-Term on October 22, 2021.

Staff continue to work with local event organizers to ensure the success of their events, following recommendations from the province and local health unit.
