Applications are now being accepted to fill a vacancy on the Committee of Adjustment.

This position is part of a team of five community builders from across the City of Sarnia working together to shape how our diverse neighbourhoods grow.

Committee members review applications from property owners that are looking for relief from community land use standards such as lot size, setbacks, and height requirements, as well as from applicants looking to create new lots, easements over property, and other types of land consent processes.

As part of a public review process, Committee members review recommendations from the city planning service and balance this with input from applicants, neighbouring property owners, and community groups in order to formulate an independent vote as part of the Committee team. Utilizing an objective lens to assess real, potential, and perceived impacts from development proposals, this is a hands-on intimate role as a community building decision maker.

Be part of a team that sets the framework for new and progressive land use standards by finding innovative approaches and practical solutions to outside-of-the-box investment proposals here in Sarnia.

The Committee of Adjustment meets every 3rd Tuesday at 5:00pm at City Hall.

If selected, volunteer responsibilities will include a commitment to attend regular committee meetings. The appointment will expire on November 30, 2022.

All applications must be received by 12:00 Noon, on Monday, March 2, 2020. Applications must be submitted using the online application form available at or in person at the Clerk’s Department, 2nd Floor, City Hall.
