March 24, 2023 – The City of Sarnia is seeking residents in select areas to volunteer for free water testing in 2023.

The City has been conducting free water sampling to identify lead water services since 2019 as part of it’s Lead Reduction Program. The City has sampled over 8,000 properties and has replaced 66 lead service lines in the lead zones where testing is conducted.

The Lead Reduction Program is now offering free lead water sampling for residents outside the lead zones to reaffirm lead was not used for water line servicing.

To qualify for this program residents must live at a property outside the primary and secondary lead zones. Please consult the map below to see if your property is located outside of the lead zones. Lead zones are highlighted in yellow and blue.

Residents living outside the lead zones who are interested in free water testing can email leadreduction@sarnia.ca or call 519-332-0330, ext. 2232.

Please note that only first 10 appointments will be eligible for this free lead sampling in 2023.

City staff will book an appointment to visit properties and collect a five-minute sample. There is no cost for this visit and all water samples will be collected from an outside tap or in-home if no outside tap is available. Test results will be sent to your address within a few weeks. If your lead water test result shows the presence of more than 10 micrograms per liter (Ontario Drinking Water Quality Standard) of lead in water, the city of Sarnia will undertake further investigations and replace service lines if a lead water service line is found.
