The City of Sarnia and Tourism Sarnia Lambton are pleased to announce that they will be bringing the historical Canadian icon, Bluenose II, to the shores of the St. Clair River in Centennial Park next summer.

Four of the five ports throughout Ontario will host the Bluenose II the summer of 2019 for the TALL SHIPS CHALLENGE® ONTARIO tour. The ship that’s adorned the Canadian dime since 1937 will be leading a fleet of majestic tall ships as they make stops around Ontario including, Sarnia, Midland Toronto, Kingsville and Brockville.

The TALL SHIPS CHALLENGE® ONTARIO tour is the Canadian portion of the TALL SHIPS CHALLENGE® Great Lakes Series that will also see the fleet travel to ports in the U.S. The Sarnia TALL SHIPS® Celebration, part of the Great Lakes Series, will take place August 9-11, 2019.

Sarnia’s waterfront will be transformed into a nautical wonderland with a fleet of tall ships positioned along the shores of the St. Clair River in Centennial Park. Joining the Bluenose II will be the Picton Castle, also based in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. This ship has travelled the world and is a fully certified and registered Cook Islands tall ship whose mission is deep-ocean sail training and long-distance education voyages. It is also a 181-foot, three-masted vessel, currently sailing through Bali, Indonesia on its seventh voyage around the globe. Other confirmed participating tall ships include Empire Sandy, Denis Sullivan, Fair Jeanne and Appledore IV.

The full fleet of ships taking part in the tour will be announced in the coming months and will vary from port to port. Tickets will be available to view all of the tall ships anchored at the 2019 Sarnia TALL SHIPS® Celebration. There will be general admission tickets, deck tour tickets and exclusive sail-away tickets aboard Empire Sandy. The festivities will continue ashore with vendors, food and live entertainment.
