December 18, 2023 — As the City celebrates the December holiday season, several facilities and services will be impacted.

Starting Friday, December 22, 2023 at noon, until the morning of Tuesday, January 2, 2024, the following City facilities will be closed:

  • City Hall
  • The Strangway Centre
  • Sarnia Transit Offices

Contacting the City

During the holiday closure period residents are asked to reach out only in instances of immediate concern such as watermain breaks, animals at large, and dangerous downed trees. Please call 519-332-0330 and follow the prompts.

Report municipal emergencies afterhours, on evenings and weekends by calling 226-472-1150 or 519-332-0330 and pressing ‘1’ to speak to the City’s third-party service provider.

For questions regarding waste collection please call Marcotte at 519-339-9988 for garbage, and Emterra at 519-312-8579 for recycling.

Transit Service Impacts

Buses will not be in service on the following days:

  • Christmas Day, December 25, 2023
  • Boxing Day, December 26, 2023
  • New Year’s Day, January 1, 2024

New Year’s Eve Special Service

Sarnia Transit will operate a special service on the evening of New Year’s Eve with the following special routes in service, running every 40 minutes starting at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 31, until 1:30 a.m. on Jan. 1.

Please note, bus service on New Year’s Eve will pause from midnight to 12:30 a.m.

Route 1 / 3

Connects transfers at Bayside Terminal only.

Route information: Departs Bayside Terminal south on Vidal Street (under Donohue bridge), east on Confederation Street, north on Trudeau Drive, east on Turner Drive, north on Finch Drive, west on Wellington Street, north on Christina Street, and east on George Street.

Route 5 / 7/ 16

Departs Northgate Terminal heading west on Exmouth, north on Capel / Colborne, east on Lakeshore, south on Murphy, west on Errol, south on Giffel, west on Michigan, south on Cambridge, south on Wiltshire, north on Murphy, west on Rosedale, south on Colborne, east on Exmouth, and arrives at Northgate Terminal.

Route 16

Departs Northgate Terminal going east on Exmouth, south on Indian, west on Confederation, north on Ontario, north on East, west on London, north on Russell, east on Exmouth, and arrives at Northgate Terminal.

Route 9

Departs Bayside Terminal going east on George, north on Brock, east on London, north on Christina, east on Exmouth , arrives at Northgate Terminal, then east on Exmouth, south on Murphy, and arrives at Murphy Road Terminal.

Departs Murphy Road Terminal going north on Murphy, west on Exmouth, arrives at Northgate Terminal, then west on Exmouth, south on Christina, east on George, and arrives at Bayside Terminal.

Waste Collection

There will be an adjustment to waste collection schedules for both garbage and recycling on the weeks of Dec. 25 to 29 and Jan. 1 to 5. No collections will take place on Dec. 25 or Jan. 1.

As a result all collection days will be delayed by one day on both of these weeks:

  • Dec. 25 collections take place Dec. 26
  • Dec. 26 collections take place Dec. 27
  • Dec. 27 collections take place Dec. 28
  • Dec. 28 collections take place Dec. 29
  • Dec. 29 collections take place Dec. 30
  • Jan. 1 collections take place Jan. 2
  • Jan. 2 collections take place Jan. 3
