July 19, 2024 — With a master plan getting underway for Norm Perry Park, the City is looking to the community for its experiences and insights to ensure the key recreational facility continues to serve the athletes and organizations who rely on its amenities.

The 9.2-acre athletic park — named after Sarnia Imperials football legend and two-time Grey Cup champion Norm Perry — requires reinvestment as many of its amenities are near or past their end of life. While the City is currently undertaking critical investments into the facility, such as bleacher replacement, the development of a master plan will help ensure that future investments address the most crucial needs while creating a roadmap for further improvements to facilitate diverse athletic needs.

“There are numerous user groups, through a variety of sports who utilize this historic park and its facilities, and we want to ensure that we have a space that continues to serves needs well into the future,” said Krissy Glavin, Manager, Parks and Recreation, adding, “we’re looking to user groups, and the community as a whole to tell us what those needs are.”

Outcomes from the master plan, once developed, will help inform the City’s annual budget deliberations, while at the same time, ensuring investments are well defined to capitalize on future grant and funding opportunities.

An online, community-wide survey has been launched inviting residents to share their experiences and insights with the park and potential future improvements. The survey comes ahead of direct engagement with identified stakeholders such as current park user groups.
