March 27, 2026 — The City is getting ready to host an information session to help potential candidates and third-party advertisers better understand the process of navigating the 2026 Municipal Election.
The session, delivered by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, will take place at 5 p.m. on April 21, 2026 in Council Chambers at City Hall. The session is an opportunity for candidates to learn more about several topics related to the campaign process, requirements and roles.
“The campaign process does have some very specific rules, processes and requirements to ensure compliance with the Municipal Elections Act, so we are hosting the session to help any prospective candidates or third-party advertisers better understand the process, and participate with a full understanding,” said City Clerk Amy Burkhart.
Topics covered will include:
- Eligibility rules for candidates and third-party advertisers
- Filing to run for election via the nomination process
- Campaign finances such as rules, expenses and contribution limits
- Compliance audit committee roles and responsibilities
No registration is required for the session.
Nominations for the 2026 Municipal Election open May 1, 2026.
