Aug. 8, 2022 – The City of Sarnia continues to track the impacts of last week’s extreme weather and engage with impacted homeowners.

Last Thursday evening, an abnormally high volume of rain resulted in flooding of some City streets and basements across the community, especially in the Coronation Park area. The City has been actively tracking the impact to homeowners and asks any residents who experienced basement flooding to report it to the City.

City staff have been engaging directly with homeowners with one-on-one return calls.

At the same time, to support homeowners whose insurance will not remove flood-damaged materials, the City will be providing curbside removal of these materials this Thursday. Individuals requiring this assistance can call 519-332-0330 or email customerservice@sarnia.ca with their address to sign up. Waste should be at the roadside by 7 a.m. on Thursday. The City will review the program and schedule follow up removal where warranted.

The City offers financial support for homeowners in mitigating the causes of basement flooding through its Basement Flooding Grant Program. Residents can learn more about basement flooding, grants, and report instances of flooding, at www.sarnia.ca/basement-flooding.
