July 10, 2025 — The City is looking to the public for their input as it relates to the future of Mitton Street.
Pending budgetary allocation, the City is preparing to move forward with combined sewer separation on Mitton Street, from Wellington Street to Davis Street, in 2026. Mitton Village is specifically identified as an area in the community for targeted reinvestment in the City’s Community Improvement Plan. Given the importance of Mitton Street as a central travel and business corridor in the area, the City is integrating the opportunity to enhance streetscaping; improve capacity and safety for all modes of travel; and drive community connection as part of the combined sewer separation work.
Design work is currently underway on the streetscaping effort, and the City is looking to area residents, visitors, and businesses for their experiences, insight and input.
“We’re looking to take a big step in shaping the future of our community that will boost a core business and residential area, improve safety, and accommodate road users of all ages and abilities,” said Manager of Development and Transportation Alister Brown, adding, “Mitton Village is such a vital link in the community, we hope the project will do more than replace infrastructure, but also drive community connections, civic pride and future investment.”
Residents can visit www.speakupsarnia.ca/MittonStreetDesign to learn more about the project and complete an online survey before July 31, 2025. A business owner survey has also been developed and will be distributed directly to businesses in the area.
