November 22, 2024 —Sarnia residents can swing by the Compost Site from Monday until December 13 with a food donation in hand to receive a free yard of mulch, woodchips or compost.
As a way to assist those in need, donations of non-perishable items are being accepted for the Inn of the Good Shepherd, in return for a free yard of materials.
“This is really just a fun way for us to give back, while providing our residents the chance to pick up some AA compost material at next to no price,” said Environmental Services Manager Joe Boothe.
The Compost Site at 379 St. Andrews Street, is open Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Residents can make a donation, and in return receive a free yard of mulch, woodchips or compost while supplies last.
Limit one free yard per visit.
Urgently needed items include cereal, fabric softener, pet food, diapers, side dishes, school snacks, cookies, crackers, fruit cups, pudding cups, large soups, canned fruit, peanut butter, jam, boxed macaroni and cheese, dish soap, sugar, coffee, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, deodorant and toilet paper.
Sarnia Compost site provides convenient drop-off service for yard waste and brush while assisting in diverting certain types of organic waste from landfill. In 2023 the site received 7,928 metric tonnes of yard waste and brush, the majority of this was collected curbside during yard waste and brush special collections.
