April 30, 2026 — To aid gardeners getting a jump on the growing season the Sarnia Compost Site will be open Saturday, May 16, 2026 to allow for the purchase of materials.
The site is typically closed on Saturdays but is being opened for one day over the May long weekend to ensure local gardeners can access the compost, wood chips and mulch available for purchase at the site. The drop off of yard waste and brush will not be permitted during the one-day sale.
“We’re looking to expand the opportunities for residents to purchase compost, wood chips and mulch, that we generate at the Compost Site,” said Environmental Services Compliance Superintendent Katherine Gray.
The St. Andrews Street site will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 16, 2026. Materials are priced at $22.25 per cubic yard, with a limit of 25 yards per customer per visit.
Wood chips sold at the site are created from wood gathered across the year through forestry operations. Mulch is the product of brush collected at the site and through curbside collections. Compost sold at the site is generated from grass, leaves and other yard waste that is gathered locally through curbside collections and drop off at the Compost Site.
In 2025 the site accepted 8,507 metric tonnes of yard waste and brush, diverting these volumes from landfill.
