May 1, 2025 — With spring gardening season underway, the Sarnia Compost Site will stay open late on Tuesdays and Thursdays in May to ensure local gardeners can access the site to purchase mulch, wood chips and compost regardless of their schedule.
The site will be open every Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. starting May 6, 2025, until May 31, 2025.
Normal hours — 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. — will apply on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The site is closed Saturdays; however, Sarnia residents can drop off yard waste and brush, free of charge at Transco Waste and Recycling at 387 McGregor Side Road South.
“With the Compost Site closed Saturdays, we wanted to ensure that all our residents have access to the site and its materials as the garden season gets underway. We understand 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. doesn’t suit everyone’s needs, so the extended hours are a way for us to ensure all our residents can take advantage of the site’s materials and services,” said Joe Boothe, Manager, Environmental Service.
In 2024 the site processed 6,804 tonnes of compost and brush and distributed 5,247 tonnes of materials.

The loader will not be available for loading after 3 pm each day.
