October 10, 2025 — Visitors to Kenwick Park will soon see equipment mobilizing on site as construction begins for a new splash pad, thanks to a generous donation from the Pat and Val Gladwish Foundation.
Work is expected to begin on October 14, 2025, advancing the donation-supported project at the Bright’s Grove park.
The start of construction represents a significant step toward realizing the vision brought forward by Val Gladwish, who approached the City, offering to support the construction of a splash pad at the park in honour of her late husband, Patrick Gladwish. Val was inspired by a similar splash pad in Orillia and the hours spent enjoying that location with her grandchildren. Council approved her donation earlier this year, advancing her vision of a splash pad with natural features that will keep families active and engaged in their community for years to come.
“Supporting this initiative is a meaningful way for our family to honour the memory of a beloved husband, devoted father and proud grandfather. We view this project as both a legacy to Pat’s values and as an investment in the continued growth of the community,” said Val Gladwish.
After a competitive tender process, Southwest Fence and Decks Limited was selected as the contractor for the project. The City is targeting completion of the recreational amenity in the spring of 2026, ahead of the 2026 aquatics season.
“We’re happy to see this project moving forward and grateful to the Pat and Val Gladwish Foundation for making this meaningful community space possible — a place that will bring families together for years to come,” said Mayor Mike Bradley.
Impacts to the park are expected to be minimal during construction. An opening celebration will be planned for the new facility ahead of opening in 2026.
