February 20, 2025 — As of today, the City of Sarnia and the Sarnia Police Service, have successfully transitioned the last individuals encamped at Rainbow Park out of the area.

Sarnia By-Law Enforcement and the Sarnia Police Service IMPACT have engaged with the last individuals remaining at Rainbow Park in recent weeks to have them voluntarily vacate the site. All individuals leaving the park were connected with alternate housing / shelter.

Numbers at the encampment have dwindled in recent months, and the City has pared back health and safety measures in response to reduced need. With the final tents cleared from the site, fencing and security will remain in place to ensure the park remains clear of encampments.

The City will continue to enforce its Encampment Response Protocol which prohibits encampments on all City-owned property.

Social Services, such as housing supports, are delivered locally by the County of Lambton. The City continues to work with and look to the County to address the impacts of homelessness and transition individuals experiencing homelessness in the community to stable shelter or housing.

If you or someone you know is experiencing homelessness, please contact Lambton County Social Services at 519-344-2062, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. For assistance outside of these hours, please contact the Good Shepherd’s Lodge at 519-344-1679.
