November 6, 2024  — Sarnia Transit’s new Community Bus route will hit the road Monday, providing riders, including those who frequently utilize the Care-A-Van service, enhanced options in accessing popular destinations across the City.

The new route — which will run every 60 minutes from 10:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. on weekdays — will function as a single loop, servicing some of the most popular destinations for transit riders without the need for transfers. The need for the route was identified based on feedback from conventional and Care-A-Van transit riders and will operate as a pilot aimed at reducing the demand on the Care-A-Van service, ensuring it is available for those who need it most. Due to high demand, some Care-A-Van clients were sometimes unable to book specific times during peak weekday hours. The new pilot route will provide another option for these clients to access programs, shopping and medical appointments.

“We really want to enhance the level of service for our Care-A-Van clients,” said Transit Manager Michelle Carter, adding, “the new route provides some greater flexibility for them, and all riders, by eliminating the need to book a scheduled time via the Care-A-Van service to access some of our most frequently requested destinations.”

Destinations serviced by the route include community programs, specialized homes, popular shopping destinations and healthcare facilities.

The Community Route will enter into operation on November 11, 2024, servicing stops marked with a green Community Bus sign. To view the route, visit www.sarnia.ca/TransitRoutes.
