October 22, 2024 — The City is seeking nominations for individuals, businesses and organizations who have dedicated themselves to creating an accessible, and inclusive, community for individuals living with a disability.

Nominations are now open for the annual City of Sarnia Accessibility Awards, hosted by the Sarnia Accessibility Advisory Committee (SAAC). Now in their 12th year, the awards recognize local accessibility leaders who have gone the extra mile to improve accessibility and awareness for people with disabilities.

“Inclusivity lifts us all up, regardless of who we are, and it is an effort that takes more than any just one person, it takes a community. We want to recognize those who have led the way, stepped up, and inspired others toward a more accessible future, inclusive of all our community members,” said SAAC Chair Debbie Draganits, adding, “if you know an organization, business or individual who takes the time and puts in the effort to enhance accessibility and inclusivity in our community we want to hear from you.”

Nominations can be submitted in the following categories:

  1. Prelude to Excellence for Large Business (30 plus employees)
  2. Prelude to Excellence for Small Business (less than 30 employees)
  3. Creating Opportunities for an Accessible Community
  4. Outstanding Service in a Social Service Sector
  5. Kevin Schenk Legacy Award

The deadline for nominations is Nov. 12, 2024 at 4 p.m. Learn more and submit a nomination online by visiting www.sarnia.ca/AccessibilityAwards.
