July 28, 2025 — The City is looking to the community for those individuals, businesses and groups who go the extra mile to create a more accessible, inclusive Sarnia.

Nominations are now open for the annual City of Sarnia Accessibility Awards, hosted by the Sarnia Accessibility Advisory Committee (SAAC). Now in their 13th year, the awards recognize local accessibility leaders who have gone the extra mile to improve accessibility and awareness for people with disabilities.

“Accessibility and inclusivity are the work of a community, and often it is specific individuals and groups who lead that effort, taking the first steps that encourage all of us to strive for a Sarnia that is welcoming everyone,” said SAAC Chair Debbie Draganits, adding, “we want to recognize those leaders, thank them for their contributions and leadership, and inspire others to drive meaningful change here in Sarnia.”

Nominations can be submitted in the following categories:

  • Prelude to Excellence for Large Business (30 plus employees)
  • Prelude to Excellence for Small Business (less than 30 employees)
  • Creating Opportunities for an Accessible Community
  • Outstanding Service in a Social Service Sector
  • Kevin Schenk Legacy Award

While nominations are accepted year round, the deadline for nominations for the 2025 awards is September 30, 2025 at 4 p.m. Learn more and submit a nomination online by visiting www.sarnia.ca/AccessibilityAwards.

Awards recipients will be recognized with a formal event on Dec. 3, 2025 to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
