July 31, 2026 — The City is extending its gratitude to the Ontario Lottery and Gaming (OLG) Corporation for its support of recently completed improvements to Germain Park.
Initial Germain Park Master Plan Phase 1 improvements — including the park’s new playground and revitalized, relocated dog park — were completed this year after work began in 2025, with $392,839 in Municipality Contribution Agreement support from the OLG.
“OLG truly values being a long-standing partner in the City of Sarnia and to communities across Ontario,” said Kathleen Devine, OLG’s Senior Municipal Relations Manager. “Every dollar of OLG’s profit is returned to Ontario to support the things people care about most, like critical infrastructure, local initiatives, and community events. Those dollars are making a difference here in Sarnia. The impact wouldn’t be possible without the great team at Gateway Casinos Sarnia, whose work supports both the local economy and community well-being. When you play at an Ontario casino, you play for Ontario.”

The new playground, dog park and pathway connections initiated in 2025, represent the first steps toward realizing the Council-endorsed vision for the park outlined in the Germain Park Master Plan. Built on extensive public input from 10 stakeholder groups and over 1,100 individual respondents, the plan outlines a vision for the park that reflects changing recreational preferences; serves a diverse array of recreation types; celebrates heritage; is accessible, welcoming and safe; and strengthens long-term sustainability through infrastructure resiliency and asset management planning.
“Funding like this from the OLG is so meaningful in driving real change here in Sarnia, providing greater levels of investments into the recreational spaces where our community comes together to relax, connect with nature and engage in sport. Investments such as these mean we can serve a wider array of these needs and ensure these spaces our community values so much continue to serve their needs now and for decades to come,” said Facilities Manager Tom Burnard.
Since 1975, OLG has provided more than $65 billion to the people and Province of Ontario. In 2024-2025 the OLG provided $165 million to municipalities and First nations that host casinos and Charitable Gaming Centres. Payments made to municipalities that host casinos are made under an equitable formula in the Municipality Contribution Agreement (MCA) and are based on a graduated scale of gaming revenue that is consistent across all sites and host municipalities in Ontario.
Since May 1999, the City of Sarnia has received approximately $28.3 million in MCA payments.
