On October 31, 2023, the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, by regulation, designated the City of Sarnia for the purpose of section 284.2 of the Municipal Act.
This means that Part VI.1 of the Municipal Act (Special Powers and Duties of Heads of Council), is now applicable to the City of Sarnia.
Due to the resulting legislative changes to the budget process, the scheduled release of the draft 2024 Budget will be paused to ensure compliance with these new legislative changes.
The Corporate Priorities/Strategic Planning Meeting scheduled for Monday, November 6 has also been cancelled due to these changes and the impact on the budget process.
