April 30, 2025 — The City and Unifor Local 914, representing 51 Sarnia Transit staff, have ratified a three-year agreement that ensures transit workers are fairly compensated for the critical work they do, while maintaining affordability for taxpayers.

The new three-year contract covers January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2027. The contract includes a 3.1 per cent wage increase for 2025, 3.1 per cent for 2026, and 3.2 per cent for 2027, reflecting the impacts of inflation while maintaining the City’s competitive wage position against comparable Ontario Municipalities.

The City’s Management Bargaining Team and Unifor leadership spent a total of seven days working together to establish the contract, which was approved by Council on Tuesday, April 29, 2025.

“The Unifor National was pleased with the collaborative work done by both parties, Local 914’s executive and the City of Sarnia bargaining team, which secured a successful Minutes of Settlement that was agreed to and presented for ratification and accepted by the membership of the transportation group for an additional three years,” said Unifor National Service Representative Gary Lynch.

“I would very much like to thank local Unifor leadership and all their members for their support and collaboration through the bargaining process. The input from Unifor Local 914 was a key factor in achieving a contract that is affordable for taxpayers, while ensuring our Sarnia Transit employees are well supported and fairly compensated for their work in keeping our community moving and thriving,” said Human Resources Manager Tammy Broer.
