December 17, 2024 — As the City celebrates the December holiday season, several facilities and services will be impacted. Learn more about contacting the City, Transit service impacts, Waste Collection, Christmas Tree disposal and Holiday Open Skates.
Starting Tuesday, December 24, 2024 at noon, until the morning of Thursday, January 2, 2025, the following City facilities will be closed:
- City Hall
- The Strangway Centre
- Sarnia Transit Offices
Contacting the City
During the holiday closure period residents are asked to reach out only in instances of immediate concern such as watermain breaks, animals at large, and dangerous downed trees. Please call 519-332-0330 and follow the prompts.
Report municipal emergencies afterhours, on evenings and weekends by calling 226-472-1150 or 519-332-0330 and pressing ‘1’ to speak to the City’s third-party service provider.

Transit Service
Buses will not be in service on the following days:
- Christmas Day, December 25, 2024
- Boxing Day, December 26, 2024
- New Year’s Day, January 1, 2025
New Year’s Eve Special Service
Sarnia Transit will operate its regular service from 6:30a.m., until 10:30p.m. on New Year’s Eve. An extended service with special routes will run every 40 minutes starting at 10:30 p.m. on Dec. 31, until 1:30 a.m. on Jan. 1.
Please note, bus service on New Year’s Eve will pause from 11:50p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
Route 3/1 (40 min route)
Leaves Clearwater at 10:30 p.m., 11:10 p.m. and 12:30 a.m.
Departs Clearwater Terminal travelling on Wellington, Christina, George, Vidal and arrives at Downtown Terminal.
Departs Downtown Terminal travelling on Vidal, Confederation, Trudeau, Turner, Finch, Wellington, and arrives at Clearwater Terminal.
Route 5/7 (40 min route)
Leaves Clearwater at 10:40 p.m. and 12:40 a.m.
Departs Northgate Terminal travelling on Exmouth, Capel, Colborne, Lakeshore, Murphy, Errol, Giffel, Michigan, Cambridge, Wiltshire, Murphy, Rosedale, Colborne, Exmouth, and arrives at Northgate Terminal.
Route 16 (40 min route)
Leaves Clearwater at 11:20 p.m.
Departs Northgate Terminal travelling on Exmouth, Indian, Wellington and arrives atClearwater Terminal; then travels on Wellington, Murphy, Confederation, Ontario, East, George, Vidal and arrives at Downtown Terminal; then travels on George, East, London, Russell, Exmouth and arrives at Northgate Terminal.
Route 9 (40 min route)
Leaves Clearwater at 10:30 p.m., 11:10 p.m. and 12:30 a.m.
Departs Clearwater Terminal and travels on Wellington, Murphy, Exmouth and arrives at Northgate Terminal ; then travels on Exmouth, Christina, George, Vidal and arrives at Downtown Terminal.
Departs Downtown Terminal travelling on George, Brock, London, Murphy, Wellington and arrives at Clearwater Terminal.
Route 15
Leaves Clearwater at 10:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m.
Departs Clearwater Terminal travelling on Wellington, Murphy, London, Lambton Mall Rd, Exmouth, London Line, Airport, Telfer, Lakeshore, Wildwood, Hamilton, Waterworks, Old Lakeshore, Mandaumin, Lakeshore, Wildwood, Hamilton, Brigden, Lakeshore, Telfer, Airport, London Line, Exmouth, Lambton Mall Road, London Road, Murphy, Wellington-and arrives at Clearwater Terminal.
Waste Collection
There will be an adjustment to waste collection schedules for both garbage and recycling from Dec. 25 to Dec. 27 and from Jan. 1 to Jan. 3. No collections will take place on Dec. 25 or Jan. 1.
As a result all collection days will be delayed by one day during these time periods:
- Dec. 25 collections take place Dec. 26
- Dec. 26 collections take place Dec. 27
- Dec. 27 collections take place Dec. 28
- Jan. 1 collections take place Jan. 2
- Jan. 2 collections take place Jan. 3
- Jan. 3 collections take place Jan. 4
Christmas Tree Disposal
We are also switching from curbside collection of Christmas trees, to offering a drop off option in 2025. Trees can be dropped off for free at Transco Recycling, 387 McGregor Sd Rd. during the month of January. Please visit www.transcorecycling.com or call 519-332-4045 for more information including hours of operation. Christmas Trees can also be set at the curb during the first brush collection week on April 21 to 25.
Only real Christmas trees can be dropped off or collected, fake trees are not accepted.
