December 17, 2025 — As the City celebrates the December holiday season, several facilities and services will be impacted. Learn more about contacting the City, Transit service impacts, Waste Collection, Christmas Tree disposal and Holiday Open Skates.
Facility Closures
Starting Thursday, December 24, 2025 at noon, until the morning of Friday, January 2, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. the following City facilities will be closed:
- City Hall
- The Strangway Centre
- Sarnia Transit Offices
Contacting the City
During the holiday closure period residents are asked to reach out only in instances of immediate concern such as watermain breaks, animals at large, and dangerous downed trees. Please call 519-332-0330 and follow the prompts.
Non-urgent requests can be submitted via our online Contact Us Form.
For questions regarding waste collection please call Marcotte at 519-339-9988 for garbage, and Emterra at 1-888-597-1541 for recycling.
Transit Service
Buses will not be in service on the following days:
- Christmas Day, December 25, 2024
- Boxing Day, December 26, 2024
- New Year’s Day, January 1, 2025
Sarnia Transit will operate a Christmas Eve Special Service and a New Year’s Eve Special Service.
Waste Collection
There will be an adjustment to waste collection schedules for both garbage and recycling for properties with collection days on December 25, 26 and January 1 and 2:
- Dec. 25 collections take place Dec. 26
- Dec. 26 collections take place Dec. 27
- Jan. 1 collections take place Jan. 2
- Jan. 2 collections take place Jan. 3
Christmas Tree Disposal
Trees can be dropped off for free at Transco Recycling, 387 McGregor Sd Rd. during the month of January. Please visit www.transcorecycling.com for more information including hours of operation. Christmas Trees can also be set at the curb during the first brush collection week on May 4 to 8, 2026.
Only real Christmas trees can be dropped off or collected, fake trees are not accepted.
