May 1, 2023 — The City began its annual hydrant flushing program today.
The City annually undertakes hydrant flushing, valve turning, and flow testing at fire hydrants across the City as an annual maintenance endeavor, ensuring proper operation and maintenance of hydrants and the water delivery system. Work is expected to continue throughout the summer.
Residents in areas where flushing is taking place may notice discolouration of their water. If this occurs residents can run cold tap water for 10 to 15 minutes until the water runs clean and discolouration no longer appears.
Hydrant flushing will begin in the area bounded by Lake Huron, Highway 402, the St. Clair River, and Colborne Road.
