April 11, 2024 — To facilitate improvements to Progressive Auto Sales Arena (PASA), the facility will be closed to the public starting April 15 for approximately seven weeks.

This is the first time since the building was constructed that it will be closed for preventative maintenance work, along with approved capital projects.

The facility closure will facilitate the installation of new rink boards and glass on Rink 1 to ensure the ice surface continues to meet OHL standards. The project includes:

  • Removal and disposal of existing Dasher rink boards and glass system
  • Installation of NHL approved Dasherboard rink boards and glass system

Installation of new athletic rubber flooring throughout the lower level of the facility;  including lobby, washrooms and Rink 1 dressing room corridor.

The City has notified impacted user groups, and will continue to work with them to accommodate / relocate ice requests during the closure period.

This $612,969 project continues ongoing investments to ensure the premier sports and entertainment venue continues to serve residents well into the future. The City has allocated $1.8 million in 2024 for the facility, funding elevator upgrades, refrigeration plant re-design, and exterior improvements; including railing replacement at all gates, and concrete repairs at all entrances.

Investments into recreation facilities such as PASA continue to be a priority, with the City allocating roughly $5.2 million in its 2024 Capital Budget for upgrades to recreation facilities and spaces, including:

  • $1.8 million for PASA
  • $500,000 for Clearwater Arena
  • $675,000 for Pat Stapleton Arena
  • $200,000 for Errol Russell Park
  • $200,000 for Norm Perry Park
  • $200,000 for Playground Equipment
  • $1.1 million for final steps in a multi-year transformation of Tecumseh Park
