Receive alerts about emergencies and other important community news by signing up for Sarnia-Lambton Alerts (formerly MyCNN Community Notification Network)
Sarnia-Lambton Alerts is a community notification system that can contact subscribers through a method of their choice, such as telephones, cell phones, email and text messages. Subscribers will receive critical emergency messages about tornados, industrial incidents and boil water advisories. This system enables us to provide you with critical information quickly in a variety of situations, such as severe weather, unexpected road closures, missing persons, and evacuations of buildings or neighborhoods.
You will receive time-sensitive messages wherever you specify, such as your home, mobile or business phones, email address, text messages and more. You pick where, you pick how.
In 2014 The City of Sarnia partnered with the Community Awareness Emergency Response (CAER) organization to create Sarnia-Lambton Alerts to bring you timely information about critical events.
The CAER organization deals with the exceptional safety issues arising in the City of Sarnia. Given our proximity to industry, Sarnia presents unique public safety challenges. CAER is a valued community partner providing essential information you can use to prepare your family in the event of an emergency, including relevant instructions to help you and your loved ones stay safe.
Non-emergency notifications
Prior to 2021, when you registered for the network, you could choose to receive SMS text message notifications informing you of a variety of situations categorized as emergency and non-emergency. The City of Sarnia will continue to provide emergency mandatory notifications through SMS text message such as tornado warnings, missing persons, evacuations or shelter in place orders. Non-emergency notifications, such as road closures, will no longer be offered via SMS text messaging. The function of this service is changing and will now require our citizens to download the Everbridge app.
The City of Sarnia can no longer send non-emergency notifications you selected upon registration with the network, via SMS text messaging, without incurring additional fees due to new guidelines and restrictions implemented by major phone providers.
To continue receiving non-emergency notifications on your smart phone or hand-held device, you must now download the Everbridge app and subscribe to Sarnia-Lambton Alerts. This app will allow the City of Sarnia to continue providing this valuable service to its residents without additional cost. It is also providing the opportunity to streamline our emergency management services, as you can tailor your notifications and feed to contain only the non-emergency notifications you chose, as well as all emergency notifications.
