Starting July 1, there will be some changes in Sarnia and other Ontario communities in terms of who handles residential recycle collection.

In line with a new Province of Ontario program, the City of Sarnia will transfer responsibility for residential recycle collection to producer responsible organizations on July 1, 2023. Led by Circular Materials Ontario (CMO), this industry group is now responsible for administering and delivering recycling collection in Sarnia and other communities.

What does this mean for you?

As of right now, not much will change in terms of collection. CMO has committed to maintaining the same residential recycle collection program in Sarnia until Dec. 31, 2025. Your recycle zone and collection weeks won’t change this year.
What will change is who you receive recycling information from. Going forward CMO and its contractors will be your primary contacts for recycle-related questions.

Residential recycling related inquiries can now be directed to CMO’s contractor, Emterra, at 1-888-597-1541.

You can still use the Recycle Coach app to check your collection schedule, and identify what can go in the bin. For more information on the app visit www.sarnia.ca/RecycleCoach.
