September 25, 2026 — Community and government partners gathered today to celebrate the grand opening of the Germain Park Splashpad.
With 14 water features the new splashpad is the product of a team approach between Federal, Provincial, and local partners including the Rotary Club of Sarnia-Bluewaterland.
The $535,000 splashpad is funded under the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP). Through ICIP, the Government of Canada contributed $214,000 and the Government of Ontario provided $178,315. The project also received $42,685 from the City of Sarnia and $100,000 from the Rotary Club of Sarnia-Bluewaterland.
The opening of the new feature is a continuation of the city’s $7-million vision to revitalize the 60-acre central Sarnia park, ensuring it continues to serve residents and diverse recreational needs for decades to come.
“The new Germain Park Splash Pad is an exciting place that brings families together and encourages active outdoor play. Infrastructure like this helps build welcoming and lively communities, and supports the growth of Sarnia,” said Marilyn Gladu, Member of Parliament for Sarnia—Lambton—Bkejwanong.
“Congratulations to all the partners who worked to bring the new Germain Park Splash Pad to life. This exciting addition to Germain Park will provide families, children and visitors with a new place to gather and enjoy the outdoors for years to come. Through our government’s $236 billion capital plan, we’re building the infrastructure communities need to grow, thrive and remain resilient for generations to come,” said David Piccini, Ontario’s Minister of Infrastructure.
“This investment is an important part of the revitalization of Germain Park and a positive addition for the surrounding neighbourhoods, providing a space for families to enjoy well into the future. Thank you to the Rotary Club of Sarnia-Bluewaterland for their generous contribution, and to all the partners who helped make this important community project possible,” said Sarnia Mayor Mike Bradley.
“The Rotary Club of Sarnia-Bluewaterland is proud to support this City of Sarnia project that is very much needed by city youth. When we heard about the overwhelming support expressed for a splashpad we were excited to get involved. Over the years, our club has previously helped fund city playgrounds including two at Centennial Park, one at Canatara Park, one at Mike Weir Park, and one at Germain Park. The splash pad at Germain is our first splash pad. In today’s hotter climate, having a safe place to cool off for children of all ages is important to the health of our community. We are excited to officially celebrate opening of the splashpad that will serve children for years to come,” said Scott McKelvie, Rotary Club of Sarnia-Bluewaterland Youth and Vocational Committee Chair.
“The new splash pad at Germain Park is a tremendous addition for families across Sarnia-Lambton and another example of what can be achieved when all levels of government and community partners work together. Investments like this enhance recreational opportunities, encourage healthy and active lifestyles, and create welcoming spaces where residents can gather and connect. The splashpad is part of Phase 1 of the Germain Park Master Plan. The splashpad project follows up on initial Phase 1 work initiated in 2025 including a relocated and revitalized dog park, and new playground.
