FAQs
Are tables and chairs available?
Yes. Each community room has tables and chairs available, stored in closets in the rooms that are accessible during your rental.
Please note that staff do not perform set ups or take downs.
Can I decorate?
Yes. You can decorate the space but cannot use anything that will permanently mark the walls/surfaces in the room (e.g. tacks, nails, heavy-duty tape).
Decorations must be put up and taken down within your rental start and end times.
Can I bring inflatables?
No. Inflatables are not permitted indoors.
Is kitchenware provided?
No. Kitchenware (utensils, dishes, cookware, cleaning supplies, etc.) is not provided in community rooms and you will need to supply your own if needed for your rental.
Is audio-visual equipment available?
No. If you require audio-visual equipment during your rental, you will need to bring your own. Each community room does have access to free public Wi-Fi.
Can I rent a room and ice at the same time?
Yes. Community rooms are a great way to incorporate ice activities before or after a birthday party or celebration that requires a separate space, pending availability.
Start by selecting your desired room or ice rental on Xplor, and before paying, select “Continue Shopping” to add an additional rental to your reservation request.
Can I have a licensed rental?
Yes. You can have licensed rentals in community rooms. Licensed rentals cannot be booked online. Please contact staff directly at facilityrentals@sarnia.ca or 519-332-0330 ext. 3750.
All licensed rentals must follow the City’s Municipal Alcohol Policy and obtain a Special Occasion Permit (SOP) from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) which can be done online through the AGCO website. Only obtain a SOP after you’ve received your pending rental contract.
The SOP must be provided to staff no later than 2 weeks before your rental date. If you fail to provide the SOP, your rental will not be permitted to have alcohol and you will not be refunded the licensed rental rate.
Can I rent a room to conduct commercial activity?
If you are renting a City facility to provide a service or conduct commercial activity, you may be required to obtain a City of Sarnia Business License before your rental. Business licensing requirements vary depending on the nature of the activity. Please review the Business Licensing webpage or contact Licensing staff at business@sarnia.ca or 519-332-0330 ext. 3350 before your rental to determine if a license is required.
