YMCA Camp Programming
Staff are delighted to announce an agreement is now in place that will provide an opportunity for over 500 kids to attend summer camp under YMCA Leadership at both Camp Saredaca and Newton Park this summer!
The YMCA of Southwestern Ontario will be offering their existing day camp programs, with enrollment of up to 45 campers per week (based on health measures and standards at the time), at Camp Saredaca and an additional 15 campers per week at Newton Park for 9 weeks this summer, with plans for weekly camps to commence the week of July 5, 2021.
These camp opportunities will be available for children 4 to 12 years old, with structured camp hours from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily, with safe socially distanced designated drop off and pick up times at all locations, and an opportunity for extended care.
Subsidy will be available through the County of Lambton and financial assistance is available through the YMCA Strong Kids program.
Please contact the YMCA to register, and for more information.
Adult Outdoor Programming
After a successful summer of outdoor programming, the Recreation Department will offer in-person programming for adults 20+ in September. Participants have enjoyed the routine, activity and socialization that recreation programming contributes to their quality of life.
Programming will primarily occur outdoors, moving indoors in the event of inclement weather or due to program needs. Programming includes, but is not limited to, fitness and wellness classes, carpet bowling, shuffleboard, footcare, and beginner pickleball lessons. Programs will adhere to the Step Three restrictions.
We look forward to offering our full schedule of programs in-person at the Strangway Centre when we can do so under the direction of the province.
Card Making will be offered as a curbside pick-up kit with the materials and instructions to create cards at home.
Registration will open on Monday, August 30 for programs that will begin on Tuesday, September 7 and run until the week of September 27.
Registrations will be accepted online at Active Communities Sarnia or by calling Customer Service at 519-332-0330 extension 3131 and staff can answer questions and register over the phone.
Virtual Programming Opportunities
We understand those interested in programming may not be comfortable returning to in-person programming at this time. As such, virtual programming is offered FREE of charge until the end of the year through the Stay Active, Stay Connected Expansion Project, funded by Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors grant in conjunction with Oshawa Senior Community Centres, the City of Thunder Bay, the Town of Renfrew and the Town of Mono.
Programming is accessible via Zoom, Monday to Friday. Zoom training is offered free of charge for those who are interested in participating but unfamiliar with Zoom. Available programs are viewable online.
Low Impact Fitness, featuring yoga instructor Ann Bending, will be offered once again on YourTV. This is a seated exercise program, similar to Chair Yoga, which is available to Cogeco subscribers.
Unfortunately, we will not be offering our Red Cross Swim Lesson program this summer due to the complexities in offering these sessions during the pandemic. We look forward to the return of these program offerings next season!
